Welcome to Global Pelagic

Upwelling ecosystems provide feeding opportunities to small pelagic species such as anchovies, sardines and herrings, whom exploitation represents nearly 30% of global marine fisheries production. 80% of their catch is reduced into fishmeal, a powder of high protein content used in aquaculture and other food production systems, and; fish oil, used in salmon aquaculture and for direct human consumption due to its high content of healthy Omega-3 fatty acids.

The main objective of this site is to provide climate and fisheries scientists, fishmeal and oil producers and consumers and the aquaculture industry, data and modelling tools to track and evaluate the synergies emerging from the interactions between climate, ecosystems, production, economic globalization and international markets.

With this objective in mind, the present site deals with a wide description of the network, a summary of recent climate, import-export and market records, a simulation tool and a global management role playing game.
